pr_overview_header

Location: Paris, France

Mission: Lower Manhattan Cultural Council is proud to partner with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris (Mairie de Paris), to provide one New York City artist or collaborative pair with the opportunity to live and work at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France for six consecutive months.

LMCC and the Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris began a partnership in 2002 when Paris reached out to LMCC as a gesture of fellowship following the events of September 11, 2001. Since then, LMCC has sent 11 New York City-based artists to Paris. The Paris Residency builds on LMCC’s history of creating opportunities for artists to have new experiences and develop new work in unique settings.

Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris is situated in the heart of the Marais district in Central Paris, a dynamic quarter swarming with art galleries, restaurants, museums, and shops. Residents may pursue their artistic practice and develop their creative techniques for the duration of their stay at Cité des Arts. The site includes more than 300 individual live/work spaces, an exhibition area, and an auditorium where artists can perform concerts. Since it’s opening in 1965, Cité Internationale des Arts has accommodated more than 18,000 artists from all over the world.

Cost: The Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris will provide the selected resident a monthly cash stipend of approximately €1,296 (about US$ 1,877)*. Please note, the resident is responsible for rent (€415/month), security deposit (one month rent), artist materials, transportation to, from, and within Paris, utilities, and other related expenses.
