Location: Key West, Florida
Mission: The Studios of Key West offers up to forty juried residencies per year to working artists and writers from around the world. Residencies are awarded to visual artists, writers, composers, performers, and interdisciplinary artists.
The TSKW creative community is based in and around the historic Key West Armory, a prominent island building located at the corner of Southard and White Streets. The campus now includes a main exhibition hall, workshop space, 15 studios (utilized by local artists), a lush sculpture garden, and 4 cottages which house visiting artists.
Key West is an island community, two miles by four miles wide, at the very end of the road. Most people get around on bicycle or foot, and the neighborhoods are compact and filled with historic architecture and tropical plant life. There are Cuban groceries and café con leche on every other corner, and a mix of Latin and Caribbean influences everywhere. Known for blue skies, open water and mangrove islands, and 70 degree days in winter, Key West is removed from the American mainland by 120 miles of bridges and small islands.
Cost: There is no fee for visiting artists. TSKW provides accommodation and orientation. Artists are responsible for food, travel, and materials.
Application Fee: $35.00
Number of Artists: Up to 5 artists at a time

Three of the four residency living spaces available have a small working studio space attached which is appropriate for writing and/or non-industrial art making. Residencies are available for one month, and residency terms extend from the beginning to end of each calendar month. Residents may arrive any day after the first of the month.
All cottages have full kitchen facilities. Small groceries are located nearby, and are easily accessible by foot or bicycle. 1 cottage is wheelchair accessible.
TSKW residencies have a no overnight guest policy (this includes spouses, partners and children and friends) and a no pet policy.
Length of Stay: 4 weeks at a time
Demographic/Medium: The Studios of Key West welcomes residency proposals from creative people, in any field, interested in a residency at our campus. You may apply as a team.
Benefits: Resident artists are requested to give service to the Key West community in the form of a class, workshop, reading, performance or special project to be agreed upon by the artist and TSKW. These are given in exchange for their residency. The acceptance of a program depends on many factors, and program proposals may not be accepted even if an artist is granted a residency.
Our ongoing programming includes an extensive workshop season, free lectures, exhibitions, innovative arts projects, and cultural advancement ideas. To learn more about upcoming residency, program, and partnership opportunities at The Studios of Key West.
Artists are granted access to a bicycle for the duration of their stay and are matched with a community member who serves as a host to assist with the success of their residency. Couples working on collaborative projects may apply as collaborators. Couples working on their own creative projects may apply individually and request parallel residencies.
