Marble House Project

House exterior 1

Location: Dorset, Vermont

Mission: Marble House Project envisions a sustainable community that nurtures the imaginative spirit. Through artist residencies, workshops and permaculture principles, Marble House Project promotes an innovative atmosphere and exchange of ideas. Inspiration, contemplation and creativity are the hallmarks of the program.

Marble House Project has facilities on over 48 acres of land in Dorset, Vermont. We focus on conservation of natural resources, integration of small scale organic food production and the Arts. Residents will be able to sustain their growth by cultivating and participating in the surrounding grounds, working on their artistic vision and forging partnerships within the community. Creative artists will include but not be limited to composing, writing, choreography and the visual arts. We believe that the act of creating, whether through art or in nature, is where the human potential begins and where the community thrives.

The Manley-Lefevre House, on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in the Federal style in approximately 1815. Its formal gardens were designed in the Italianate style by Charles Downing Lay. The stone mansion will house the artists and the outbuildings on the surrounding property will hold studios. Currently, we have a completed writers studio, four art studios a movement studio and a composing studio that will be completed in May 2014. A historic barn moved from Waterville, Vermont has been restored and will be used for event space and workshops. The property also has two stone quarries, hiking trails and meadows on over 48 acres of land in Dorset, Vermont.
