Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Mission: Surface Arts and HOF ART bring artists together from around the world to concentrate on using collaborative practice to generate new work and new audiences. We aim to support the production of ideas and art works to develop understanding between cultures.
Surface Arts and HOF Art have joined forces to share our wealth of skills in running residency programs.
Surface Arts works internationally to create partnerships with organizations, galleries and institutions to develop collaborative and unique projects and residencies.
We set up our first residency program for international artists at Rumpueng Community Art Space in Chiang Mai. This program started in August 2012. Artists from around the world stayed for a minimum of one month to generate new work. Local artists were invited to collaborate with the resident artist throughout their stay. Our program has now expanded and moved to HOF Art in Bangkok’s famous Sukhumvit district.
HOF Art was founded in April, 2005 at 244, 248 Ratchadaphisek, Soi 19. HOF Art has been able to influence a new generation of artists to create, and present many exhibitions throughout the past nine years. In 2014, stepping to its ninth year, HOF Art took on a brand new space and development.
At present, HOF Art is located at the W District project on Sukhumwit 69-71 with an exhibition area, named HOF Art Space, to show and sell a great number of artworks. Moreover, there is the space to support a young generation of international artists to cooperate and interact together on behalf of the HOF Art Residency (BKK).
Our space is in the hip Sukhumvit area of Bangkok and is a focal point for both emerging and established artists, providing a space for exhibitions and events with two galleries and a café bar. We also have ten studio spaces, along with our resident accommodation, rooftop kitchen and social space.
The artists will find overwhelming inspiration, nestled inside this concrete jungle, inside the flesh of the juiciest ‘Big Mango’. They will be confronted with and enticed into this ever bustling, syrupy city overflowing with breathtaking sights, consuming aromas, glorious sounds. This frenetic, colorful, eccentric city stands bold and proud, ready and dripping with anticipation to inspire those artists drawn to an ever-changing urban landscape.
Our aesthetic and location interest has always been with URBAN surroundings, where we were drawn to the textures and gritty grime of city life. We present the raw, the rough, the layered chaos and mirror the makeup of the city.
