Marble House Project

Location: Dorset, Vermont

Mission: Marble House Project is a multidisciplinary artist residency program that fosters collaboration, sustainability, and community. Our mission is to provide space for artists and thinkers across all disciplines to work and live together. The communal home facilitates exchange and collaboration, and the private studios support the artist practice.

We value establishing a community of artists within the residency, and expanding on that by inviting artists to share their work through our local public programs. We focus on sustainability by minimizing waste, conserving our natural resources, and integrating small-scale organic food production into our residency program. Artists-in-residence cook together, for each other, are encouraged to help in the garden and on the grounds, and share responsibilities in the house.
Alumni often sustain the relationships developed here, and find future collaborators among the artists in their session.
Cost: No fee. The residency includes housing, food, and studio space.

Application Fee: $30

Number of Artists: Up to 7-9 artists at a time

Accommodations: All artists live together in the Manley-Lefevre House. The eight-bedroom house was built between 1815 and 1920, with the original building constructed from marble quarried on the property. Participants have private rooms, and some rooms have private baths. Residents cook together in the shared kitchen. A cooking schedule is developed at the start of the residency and each resident cooks, in a pair, at least twice for fellow artists.

Five outbuildings on the property make up our nine private studio spaces. Our studios include a dance studio with radiant, sprung floors; a music studio; six multi-use studios; and a chef kitchen. A restored, historic barn is used as our community event space.

The 38-acre property also has two stone quarries, hiking trails, and an organic garden. The garden provides food for our residents, and is just one of our sustainability initiatives, fundamental to our mission.
