Vermont punches far above its weight in residency density per capita. Vermont Studio Center alone is one of the largest artist residencies in the country — 50 artists at a time, year-round, with rolling deadlines. Bread Loaf is the canonical writing conference for North American writers. Smaller programs (Carving Studio, Marble House Project) run more specialized formats. This page collects them all.

Vermont Studio Center is the largest — 50 artists per session, rolling year-round admissions, optional 2- or 4-week stays, communal meals, the closest thing to a residency-as-institution in the US. The smaller programs (Carving Studio, Marble House) are intimate cohort experiences with specialized focuses.
Strictly speaking, Bread Loaf is a writers' conference (10 days, intensive workshop format) — not a residency in the studio-time sense. But it functions similarly for many writers and shares the residency-adjacent culture.
