For years, the residency world has felt like a digital graveyard. You find a dream program, spend an hour on their statement, only to realize their last Instagram post was in 2019 and their "Apply" button leads to a 404.
At the new RMAR, we're done with zombie listings.
Over the last week, we've been rebuilding our global directory from the ground up. We aren't just importing a massive list from 2018 — we are hand-seeding every entry based on actual activity from the last 12 months.
What's New
The "Verified Active" Stamp. If it's on our map, it's alive. We've checked the links, the deadlines, and the lights are still on. Every listing in the new RMAR directory has been verified against real activity — updated websites, active social accounts, and deadlines that actually exist.
Tracking the History. You'll notice a new "Permanently Closed" label on some listings. Why? Because knowing a program has shuttered is just as important as knowing one is open. It's about transparency, historical record, and — most importantly — saving you from wasting your creative energy on a ghost.
A Living Database. We've added 100+ residencies and 45+ open calls this week alone. And we're not stopping. The directory is updated daily as we verify programs, add new discoveries, and track closures.
Why this matters
The residency landscape shifted post-pandemic. Programs closed quietly. Others moved online and never came back. Some merged, rebranded, or simply stopped answering emails. The old directories — the ones artists have been relying on for years — never caught up. They're frozen in 2019, full of dead links and broken dreams.
We're here to map the new world, one verified studio at a time.
Help us keep the map clean
Notice something off about a listing? See a program that's gone dark? We've added a "Report a Ghost" button on every residency page. One click sends a flag to our team so we can investigate. Think of it as community-powered quality control — you're the scouts, we're the cartographers.
Together, we can build the most accurate, up-to-date residency directory in the world. Not because we have some massive database team. Because we have something better: a community of artists who actually use this stuff.
RMAR is back
This cleanup is just the beginning. We're rebuilding everything — the directory, the reviews, the open call tracker, the application portal — from the ground up. If you used the original Rate My Artist Residency, welcome back. If you're new, welcome home.
