I had a wonferful week at the print workshop. I found Lorenzo and his staff most helpful and delightful, in not only the workshop but also regarding Venice. I was able to work all hours and found the environment quiet, and energetic. You are able to work on many forms of printmaking and it is set up for all styles of artists. The accomadation though simple was perfect and it was great to walk back hoime at the end of a day through the streets of Venice. I hope and expect to return many times to print projects, and appreciated that l was encouraged to exhibit my work in the galleery space. — Anonymous, 2015. It was a magical time. I got a lot of work done and I also saw a lot of Venice and it's art. I didn't want to waste a moment and didn't. I often wish I could return. Love to you all. I am a professional artist and art educator, working and teaching Painting in the United States. I have been exhibiting my paintings in exhibitions since 1994, when I received a Bachelors degree in Painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. In 2005, I was invited to conduct a visual presentation of my body of work as well as conduct Student Tutorials at the Royal Academy of Arts, London United Kingdom. Other ties to Europe include extended stays in Paris through the Study Abroad Program of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992, a Professional Residency at Camac Centre D'Art at Marnay sur Seine, France in 2010 prior to visiting Venice in 2012. I had the opportunity to Visit Scuola Internazionale di Grafica for a professional Artist Residency in July 2012. I had a good two week's stay and got to finish a few projects, time being the only constraint. Venice is a bustling city with many attractions and working in a studio space can be limiting. But with support from Lorenzo and others, I was able to be satisfied with the work I completed. I would like to visit again sometime. Good program! — Anonymous, 2015. It was the best art experience I had in a long time. Accommodation, location, facility, teachers, director, colleagues, all together were conducive of a very productive and creative state of being. I would go back in a heart bit! — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
I am a painter living and working and showing in California, and I had not done printmaking in many years. While at the Scuola I was excited to learn the mezzotint technique under the expert guidance of Matilde, and the ever present Roberta who was always available in the studio for advice, pointers and all round positive help. The other artists during my stay were accomplished and interesting people from many backgrounds. And Lorenzo and staff made up the rest of the wonderful famiglia. I absolutely loved being in Venice and spent hours touring around, going to museum exhibitions, palazzos, cathedrals. My time there was truly magical, and I am inspired to be returning later this year. — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
My residency at the Scuola was nothing less than inspiring. Immersed in the beauty and history of Venice, I was deeply inspired to strep out of my comfort zone and "play" with mediums that resonated with Venice. Print making was a totally new experience for me and it was amazing to watch my skilled fellow artists exercise their talent creating beautiful and unique works of Art. I had the opportunity to do some at a very basic level. Personally it was a great pleasure and honour getting to know Mathilda, Lorenzo and the greater Scuola famiglia. They will remain a part of me forever and I hope to come back soon. — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
The Scuola is a well-established institution offering a congenial atmosphere to develop one’s artistic practice. Developed and managed by Venetian artists, the Scuola is a unique artist residency in the center of Venice and, in my opinion, the best in the city. The facilities are well maintained and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive. From January to August of 2015, I spent seven months at the Scuola during a sabbatical from my university in the United States. Thus, I feel uniquely qualified to write this review and thankful that I got to know the institution and its staff well (who now feel like family to me). Not only did this residency provide an opportunity for me to make new work, but also to make some great new friends among the other visiting artists at the Scuola. Among the residencies that I have attended around the world, I would consider the Scuola to be one of the best. I plan to return and to recommend the Scuola to my colleagues and friends. —Anne Bush, University of Hawaii — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
My time at the Scuola was excellent! I felt welcomed by all the people at the Scuola, from the directors to the other resident artists...everyone was very generous and enjoyed each others company. I made a lot of friends and enjoyed minute there. It really helps to come prepared and with a strong idea of what you want to make or want to learn. The facilities there are very good and one can make most any type of print. The location of the Scuola is perfectly situated in one of the best spots in Venice. I can't wait to go back! — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
I had a wonderful and very productive time. I had the freedom to follow my own path without intrusion or expectation. Any support i required or needed was available at any time. The print studio had the warmth of a space where printmaking is cherished, respected and loved. The fellow resident artist's added to the experience with great camaraderie, care and fun. — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
I have been 2 times in Venice, but only for 2 and 3 weeks! I have met a lot of nice people, I have seen very nice places and Scuola was very nice! I will come back — Anonymous, 2015. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
Venice inspiration is unparalleled. Accommodation, studios, and staff are good and constructive. As a painter in the program, printmakers and print making process were a great exposure to ideas, methods, and personalities. Antonio Rosario www.antoniofrosario.wix.com/arte — Anonymous, 2015. In the summer of 2016 I had the absolute pleasure of being accepted onto a month long independent artist residency programme at the scuola. With this being my first artists residency I didn't know what to expect from the experience but on reflection I think I would have struggled to have a better time than I did. In the heart of Venice I was welcomed with open arms into the scuola's art community. I had the opportunity to really explore my practice, using Venice itself as my inspiration. I shared a fantastic studio with a group of talented artists from around the globe who, after our time together, have become very good friends of mine. If I was ever in need of anything, all I had to do was ask the staff at the scuola (Roberta, Lorenzo, Matilda and Tania) and they couldn't have been more helpful and informative. This was a total life changing experience for me and I hope to return soon to continue with my work, and have a catch up with everyone over a spritz! — Anonymous, 2017. This residency was so inspirational and wonderful for my creative practice. The Scuola was fabulous, with equipment and help from the gifted Matilde and Roberta. The classes I was able to take with well-known artist from Italy was insightful and I fell in love with bookmaking and woodcuts. Venice is a magical place with so much history and art. I fell in love with everything about this residency. The fellow artists were the best, from all over the world, with creative energy and insightful generous spirits. I wholeheartedly recommend this residency. — Anonymous, 2017. Imported from the original ratemyartistresidency.com archive.
Such an inspirational place! This was my first time attending an artist residency and it surpassed all expectations. The team at the Scuola are so friendly and helpful. I learned so much during my time at the Scuola - developing my own skills and learning new techniques/ print methods. My work has been greatly influenced by my time at the Scuola. You feel part of the family while working at the Scuola and I really do hope to return some day soon. - Fergal Kilkenny (graphic designer, Ireland) — Anonymous, 2017.
