Founded in 2013, the Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) is a non-profit artists' residency on a 45-acre farm in Knoxville, Tennessee, dedicated to promoting the arts in East Tennessee. Nestled in an old-fashioned "holler" just twenty minutes from downtown, this picturesque 45-acre farm is home to a small herd of sheep and goats, a flock of backyard chickens & ducks, and one very photogenic donkey. Residencies available in all artistic mediums.

Spring 2027 Writing Residencies at Firefly Farms
13d leftSAFTA hosts writers in all genres — poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, screenwriting, journalism, academic writing — for one- to four-week stays at Firefly Farms outside Knoxville, January 3 – May 8, 2027. Rooms run $350/week in the farmhouse or $175/week in the Writers Coop dry cabin, with fellowships and financial aid available (application fees fund travel grants for Black and/or Indigenous writers). Applications close September 1, 2026.
