I completed a StudioWorks Residency in October of 2024. The administrators and staff were wonderful to work with. I had a cozy home to myself and I also had a huge studio that faced the water. Another artist was there who also had a house and a studio. We have remained close friends and have made a lasting connection. Both the home and studio were fantastic. I had daily check-ins with Kristen, the director, who was incredibly helpful. I enjoyed the town of Eastport and the local people. It was cool to be so close to Canada and I did visit. Make sure to bring your passport. I did rent a car because I wanted to travel to other areas in Maine and Canada. Bikes were available too. StudioWorks offers a generous stipend which was so appreciated as I had to fly there, rent a car and buy groceries for a month. I felt truly supported and valued there and I highly recommend this residency. There is also a bit of alumni networking which has been very valuable.
I loved having a separate studio space as it forced me to keep a schedule and I felt like I was going to work each day. It was nice to have a "home" to come back to after a long day of painting.
I hated leaving Eastport.
